The first national trunk line of Gansu invested by Asian Development bank Ping(liang)-Ding(xi) Motorway broke ground on 31, October.
It is the biggest motorway project utilizing foreign investment in Gansu province and also the biggest one in China provided by Asian Development Bank between 2003 and 2005. According to the 10th and 11th five-year plans, Ping-Ding Motorway is a component of National Highway 312 in Gansu and some of the sections in Gansu are parts of the west main channel Yinchuan-Wuhan Motorway.
It runs across many hills and mountain areas connecting the two economic centres of northeast China, Lanzhou and Xi'an. The back-up facilities of the motorway will be built at the same time.
Ping-Ding Motorway with a total length of 258km is constructed to dual two-lane motorway standard. An estimated 7.68 billion Yuan will be invested in it and it is schedule to complete in 9, 2009.
