Brief Introduction 

Wang Mengshu was born in Wenxian, Henan Province in 1938. He got his first degree from Tangshan Railway Institute in September. In 1964, he obtained his Master degree. After that,   he worked in China Railway Engineering Division of Ministry of Railways. He has been engaged in tunnel engineering and scientific research for 30 years, and promoted to Chief Engineer, Professor of Engineering. He was elected Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1995.  Doctoral Tutor in Civil and Construction Engineering College of Beijing Jiaotong University. A member of the National Committee of the ninth CPPCC, Representative of the Ninth NPC. He is now responsible for the establishment Research Center of National Tunnel Engineering. Concurrently, he is Director of Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering, Standing Director of the Institute of Tunnel and Underground Engineering of China Civil Engineering Society, and deputy director of the China Railway Committee.

 

 

 Achievements
  •  The theory about complex tunnel lining in the new pattern structure field of railway tunnel. The new technology was successfully adopted in Dayaoshan Tunnel. Currently, the technology has been widely adopted in Changda Railway, road tunnel, subway, underground parking garage.
  •  By adopting new theory, new methods, new structure, new techniques, new materials, new facility, He made a technological breakthrough in the construction of Dayaoshan Tunnel of Heng—Guang Second Railway. Thanks to him, the tunnel was 2 and a half years ahead of schedule to be completed.
  •  He led the design and construction of an engineering experiment, which adopts the loess shallow-burial, large-span, NATM method. The achievement has been adopted in the  national underground engineering.
  •  He invented the matching construction technology for shallow-filled and cover-cut, which has remarkable economic benefits, paves the way for the construction of urban subway.
  •  He led the three-arch and two-pole, large-span test section engineering of station by adopting shallow-filled and cover-cut method in Beijing.
  •  He led the tunnel blasting field test that adopted dynamic and static stress field overlaying effect.
  •  He made contributions to integrated technology matching for shallow-filled and cover-cut method. Thanks to him, the method has become popular.

 

Honors and Awards

He was awarded the Special National Science and Technology Progress Award. And he won Special Award of the Ministry of Railways Science and Technology Progress, won the First-grade Award of Beijing Science and Technology Progress.
